EVENT DETAILS

THE CARPOOL LEAVES SHEPPARD WEST STATION AT 8:30 AM

So, this is my first time leading this particular route with the TOC. I've led all the sections via other versions of this route 4 times previously.

Please bring a lunch and at least 1-2 Litres of water. We will stop for lunch at one of the lookouts

EVENT STATS

  • Distance: 10 KM
  • Terrain: Some rocky and muddy sections
  • Trail vs Road: 8km vs 2km
  • Elevation Range: 250 meters
  • Challenging Climbs of Note: 3 climbs of 25 meters & 1 climb of 250 meters
  • Largest Climb: There is one super difficult 250 meter climb at the beginning of the hike (like you will suffer and absolutely hate me)
  • Washrooms: None
  • Highlights: A couple 'beautiful views' of Beaver Valley - also a bakery right across the street from the parking lot for the end of the hike

WARNING: I've rated this hike as a D3, primarily because of its length.
I typically lead this hike as a 21 KM D4 doing the 250 m climb twice.
So, I'm going to say this hike is not quite a D4, but the climb at the beginning is definitely much tougher than your average D3, so please be wary of that.

Those willing to drive, will get first priority on the wait list, should they be needed.
DRIVERS, WHEN YOU SIGN UP, PLEASE ANSWER THE CARPOOL QUESTION REGARDING THE AMOUNT OF PASSENGERS YOU CAN TAKE IN YOUR CAR!!!

Please be aware that the Toronto Outdoor Club has mandated masks to be worn during the carpool.

For those of you choosing to meet at the event location, instead of the carpool, please ensure that you come on time

I’ve set the maximum event count at 1 as I don’t want to add anyone to the event until I have enough carpool drivers to accommodate passengers.
I will try accommodate up to 25-30 people.

    PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

  • Wear long pants.
  • Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily.
  • Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing.
  • Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal.
When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers.
If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

    For more information, see Ticks

Google is a bit weird with this address, so I'd use the Kimberley General Store as your refence, but we'll park in the lot of Mill Pond Park.

    POTENTIAL WASHROOM STOP
Superburger, on the Northwest corner of HWY 10/89 is a great place to stop, with multiple washrooms.
