Itinerary:
It can be a little cool to cycle in Toronto in late April, but it will likely be warmer in the Niagara Region, which is where this event will be centred. This event will be the first of several weekend or multiple-day bike rides that the TOC will be offering in 2008.

We will be staying at the Knight's Inn in St. Catharines, Ontario for a two-night stay (Friday and Saturday night). We will cycle the extensive system of bike paths in the area. There will be some off-road riding and some riding on road shoulders. For details and maps of where we will be riding, see the following website, which has been created by the Waterfront Regeneration Trust: www.waterfrontrail.org

If you sign up for this event, you should be in good, above-average riding form, and capable of riding at least 40 km per day on each of three consecutive days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In other words, this event is meant to constitute a fairly vigorous physical workout for those who participate, and not merely a leisurely escape to the Niagara Region (however pleasant that might in itself be). This is your opportunity to experience the Niagara Region from the vantage point of a bicycle.

I want to encourage enthusiastic participation in cycling events, but I also realize that participation in more demanding cycling events requires effective preparation and fitness training, so that everyone who attends is capable of participating fully and enjoyably with the group in the type of activity proposed. If you are not up to participating in this trip to the Niagara region, there will likely be other cycling events posted on other dates that will be more suitable for you.

Required Items to Bring:
Your own bicycle (in tip-top condition), two spare tire tubes, a basic bicycle repair kit and working tire pump, containers for carrying water (if you do not intend to buy bottled water), and a bicycle helmet (mandatory).
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Funds for snacks and meals and other entertainment options in the Niagara region (we will likely be going out to some local restaurants in the evenings!). Our hotel rooms will have refrigerators, so we will be able to keep some food in our rooms and make lunches for our rides, if we wish.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:To be provided at a later date.
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):230Km
Carpool Departure Time: 10:00 AM
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $59.34 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Friday, May 10, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:
Later in the summer, there may be opportunities to participate in a week-long bike tour in Quebec. Therefore, if you are interested in building your cycling strength for more arduous events down the road, this trip will be an excellent opportunity for you to train in the necessary way for subsequent events that are currently in the planning stage.

NOTE THAT THE CAR-POOL DEPARTURE TIME HAS BEEN SHIFTED TO EARLIER IN THE DAY.

THIS IS MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND, SO I WELCOME YOU TO SIGN UP AND HELP ME CELEBRATE!
