LABOUR DAY: The New East Don Trail (16.5 KM) (9/6/2021)

Directive From The TOC Executive

Interim COVID-19 Rules for the Toronto Outdoor Club

  • You must meet the following four conditions to participate in any TOC events.
    Within the 14 days preceding the event:
    1. You have not travelled outside of Ontario;
    2. You don’t have any COVID-19, cold, or flu symptoms;
    3. You have not knowingly been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case;
    4. You have taken and passed the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment on- line questionnaire.
  • You will bring a cloth mask/face covering, which you will wear during the event meet-up, plus any time during the event when the 2m social distancing is not possible.
  • You will comply with any other rules as detailed on the TOC Rules Amendments
  • You will comply with any additional rules set by the organizer of the event for which you have registered, which could be more strict than the ones detailed above.

NOTES

  • These rules are in effect immediately and until further notice.
  • YOU MUST CONFIRM IN THE "NOTES" SECTION DURING SIGN UP THAT YOU MEET ALL THE CONDITIONS LISTED IN THIS DIRECTIVE AND YOU WILL COMPLY WITH ALL THE INTERIM RULES.
    Your event coordinator has been instructed to remove your event registration without further notice if you do not take this step during your registration.
  • Your coordinator may also remove you from the event (even after it has started) if you fail to comply with the rules, and report you back to the TOC Executive.
  • If you cannot or do not wish to follow these temporary rules, please wait to sign up for any TOC events until the interim rules are lifted.

EVENT DETAILS

So, this is a little longer hike for your Labour Day Holiday, checking out some of the new trails in the east Don Valley.

This route will be about 16.5 km both starting and finishing at Kennedy Station.

Despite its length I've still rated this hike as a D3 as the majority of the hike will be on wide flat paved trails, with a few single track trails and some neighborhoods thrown in.

In terms of hills, there are probably about 3 climbs, including one hill of about 50 meters and 2 other stair climbs.

In terms of washrooms, there should be 2 available. 30 minutes in at Goodlad Park, which we will pass twice.

  • Hiking boots or hiking shoes
  • Water 1-2 L and snacks
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Face mask or face covering

    Kennedy Subway Station is located on the Line 2 Bloor/Danforth at the far east end.

    We'll meet outisde the Passenger Drop-Off Entrance

    If driving, Kennedy Station is located, just east of Kennedy, south of Eglinton.
