Itinerary:

Please READ ALL event details before attempting to register for this event

  • This hike is restricted to strong intermediate and advanced hikers who have D4 or D5 experience on my hikes.
  • I need to be familiar with your hiking abilities.
  • I insist!
  • Non-negotiatable!
  • NB: a D4 urban hike on flat paths does not qualify you
  • If you do not have D4 or D5 experience on my hikes you will be removed from the waiting list without further explanation.
  • You can sign up for 1 of my other D4 events so you may qualify the next time I do this hike.

WARNING
This trail is very challenging with lots of slippery rocks and boulders, logs, mud, ascents and descents and cliffs.
To get to the "narrows" crossing we will have to scramble down (then back up on the way back) a VERY challenging outcropping of boulders
See pic at top right of this page!
We will hike a short distance past the narrows
There are wetlands and beaver dams to walk across, with lots of opportunities to slip and get very wet and cold.
Yay! Sounds like fun! Just my kind of hike.
The terrain is rocky Canadian Shield, about 17 km north of Port Severn, between Parry Sound and Barrie on the east coast of Georgian Bay.
We will have spectacular views of the lake from atop granite cliffs.

DISTANCE: about 20 km

PACE: about 5 km/h - everyone will be expected to keep up with the group

DIFFICULTY: D5 (pace, distance and terrain)

You will notice that I indicated a pace of about 5 km/h which we will do if appropriate.
There will be places we will go slower due to the difficult slippery terrain.

MAX GROUP SIZE: about 12 (+ or -)

Everybody will go directly to the waiting list and may be added to the event based on suitable hiking experience and available drivers.
Members on the waiting list who have a good attendance history, and members who are willing to drive may get priority. Parking at the trail head is limited.

NOTICE ABOUT LENGTH OF THIS EVENT: I plan to finish the hike before dark, but in the North, you never know. "Stuff" can happen. Sunset is early this time of the year. We will be driving back in the dark. If you have a time that you need to get back home, I cannot guarantee you will make it in time, and you should plan some other activity instead of this hike.
