Itinerary:

Expect a late return - forget about making evening plans. It's recommended to bring a whistle in case you get separated from the group - this is wilderness terrain. With shorter days, it's also recommended to bring a light - just in case.

Please make an effort to arrive early at the carpool, because of the shorter days and long drive, we need to leave on time.

The terrain is rocky and challenging, a bit of climbing is involved. Length is approximately 18 km, pace is 4-4.5 km/h when tenable, but will be slower on more challenging terrain.

This hike is suitable for experienced intermediate hikers. It is not suitable for beginners, or hikers who like to walk at a slow pace, or hikers who are averse to some off-trail bushwacking.

Situated between Parry Sound and Barrie on the east coast of Georgian Bay, the McCrae Lake Wilderness Area posses the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. This is a challenging but rewarding hike. We'll pass by spectacular views of the lake from atop granite cliffs, windswept white pines, bedrocks, beaver dams and wetlands.

Everyone starts on the wait list, passengers will be added as drivers become available. Members willing to drive and members with favourable attendance records may get priority on the wait list.
