Itinerary:

This is a wonderfully scenic hike passing by three waterfalls. It includes a stop at the Flat Rock Cellars winery, where we'll stop for lunch at the picnic benches and, should you wish, sample some of the wines.

The terrain is variable. Length of hike is 16 km, pace is 4-4.5 km/h.

This hike is suitable for intermediate hikers and fit beginners.

We'll leave one car near the Ball's Falls Conservation Area and shuttle to the Short Hills Provincial Park parking lot on Roland Rd. On our way back we'll pass by Swayze Falls, Rockway Falls, Louth Conservation Area, Flat Rock Cellars winery, and end at Ball's Falls Conservation Area. We'll then retrace our steps a kilometer or so, where drivers will leave us to go back for the rest of the cars.

Maximum group size is set to 1 so that everyone starts on the wait list, passengers will be added as drivers become available. Members willing to drive and members with favourable attendance records may get priority on the wait list. Meet at event is allowed on this one, but anyone taking that option must be willing to participate in the car shuttle.

PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal. When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

For more information, see Ticks
