Itinerary:
READ ALL BEFORE YOU SIGN UP. Make sure you can hike the specified distance at specified pace over uneven and challenging terrain before you sign up

NOTE. 7AM departure, on a Sunday of a long weekend. SUBWAY WILL NOT BE OPERATIONAL for your travels to carpool location. Earlier start will allow for longer hiking distance and the driving distance of about 2.5 hrs each way. Please arrive 15 min before carpool departure time so that we can be on the road on time. Don't sign up if you need to be back home by specific time.

The hike is for intermediate or advanced hikers only. If you never hiked with me before, please provide few examples of your experience within the 'notes' section. Do not sign up until you're fairly certain that you're able to attend.

We will begin our hike north of Woodford (km 44.2) and hike around Bayview Escarpment Provincial Nature reserve. We will be rewarded with a number of magnificent views from the escarpment over the Georgian Bay including, Ministry of National Defence, Meaford Land Forces Training Centre. Other highlights will include hiking through colonies of ferns that include the rare varieties of Hart's Tongue and Walking Ferns. We will continue westward hike to Beaver Springs Nature Reserve where we may hike the 1.6 km side trail with its giant beech trees and abandoned beaver dam. In the final 2 km stretch, there is also a chance to visit to Lloyd Laycock Cave Side Trail which climbs through a rock crevice to the top of the rocky canyon, before descending quickly into a cave.

Between all these interesting sections, there will be about 10 km of hiking on the roads. This means we'll be open to the elements, like no shade, blazing sun/heat and/or rain. Bring more water to drink than you think you will need. Also trail conditions may still be challenging due to recent rains = muddy, wet and slippery. Also mosquitos are expected to be plentiful depending on weather and trail conditions.

The hiking pace will be approximately 4.0 km to 4.5 km per hour, slower pace on the uphills. I am a SLOW hiker, making frequent stops to take photos :) Please be prepared to respect my style of hiking. Thanks.

We will hike as a group, and thus, wait as necessary for everyone, If you think you'll have uncontrollable urges to be constantly on the move or to sprint ahead, this is NOT an event for you. Speedsters will be put at the back of the line.

Please ensure you can hike the distance over the uneven and steep hilly terrain, and at the specified pace BEFORE you sign up.

This hike involves a car shuttle, hike will be modified or postponed if not enough drivers sign up. Also, additional participants will be added as space permits.

If you're travelling by TTC to the carpool location, you're responsible for taking into consideration the TTC schedule (e.g. Sunday schedule = subway not yet operational), any service disruptions, etc in order to arrive on time. Also note, we will meet at the Passenger Pick Up location that's off Subway Crescent. We will meet outside, as the doors will be locked.

BE PREPARED: We will hike as a group. Again, if you think you may be sprinting ahead... don't sign up! We will be hiking rain, or sunshine.
