Learn to Canoe and KayakThis event is suitable for: Absolute beginners and as a refresher for others with previous experience. No swimming skills are necessary to participate in this event - though it's very likely you may get wet at some point. This event commences with carpooling from Kipling Subway to Brant Conservation (where event is conducted) and terminates with carpooling back to Kipling Subway. Carpool money will be calculated, collected and drivers paid at Brant Conservation Area. Payment for this event can be made via Paypal using the link below in event write up; Cost & Payment: Make a Payment: Click here. Morning session begins with a 1 hour talk/presentation from your experienced group leader about: 1) Trip Planning: AdventureSmart, 2) Water/Paddle Safety: Paddle Canada/PaddleSmart, and 3) Resources: What to rent/purchase and where to paddle. Other items of interest to those new to canoeing and kayaking will be discussed through the day. In canoeing; from draw & pry strokes for maneuvering, to sweeps & the “J” strokes for steering. In kayaking; from proper technique for power strokes, to “C” & Sweep strokes for maneuvering, to brace strokes. Afternoon; Canoe and Kayak learning sessions are followed by a guided trip down the Grand River (a scenic Canadian Heritage River traveling thru rare Carolinian Forest) with your instructor coaching you in using your new skills. It's a great learning event to solidify your paddling and safety skills in real world paddling conditions. Please contact event organizer if you wish to use your own boat/gear. There will still be a transportation/shuttle and teaching cost. This event is co-hosted and will be guided by Grand Experiences - one of the leading canoe & kayak training centers in Southern Ontario. They work with schools, scouts & guides, corporate groups & individuals to provide canoe, river kayak & sea kayak training. They are fully insured on the road and the water. All guide staff is certified in first aid/CPR and The Ontario Recreational Canoeing & Kayaking Association (ORCKA) certifies our wilderness guides and instructors. | |||||||
