Itinerary:

This loop is located in the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park. This area offers great views. Along the way, we will traverse forest, ravines, beaver dams, lakes, rivers and will see rapids.

Our hike starts at Victoria Bridge, covering the Ragged Rapids Side Trail, connecting to the main trail at Black Fly Junction, and back to Victoria Bridge. There will be a 20 to 30 minute stop somewhere along the loop for having lunch, resting, etc.

Participants must be able to hike at a minimum of 4 km/hour pace on difficult terrain to come on this hike. The terrain is rugged and in some places very strenuous. This loop is a 16 km long, and given the rugged terrain, the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Guidebook suggests it will take 6 hours to complete.

Note that beaver dam crossings are expected; so hikers must be prepared for wet feet. It is also noted the trail could be poorly marked at some points (it is not unusual in the Wilderness Section for trail markers to be vandalized and moved); so the group should stay together to avoid individuals getting lost in the forest.

Mosquitoes, blackflies, and other bugs are expected, so participants need to be prepared to deal with them. There are no facilities in the park, so water, food and any other necessities should be carried from home.

Given the remoteness and lack of alternate access points, there will be no dropouts. Also, please take this remoteness into consideration in case of having a medical condition that might trigger an emergency situation (including intense allergic reactions to insect bites or stings, or intense asthma events) as professional medical assistance could be hours away. Please make sure you bring any medication you might need. If you might require an EpiPen or a fast reacting inhaler, please make sure you have it with you, and let the event coordinator, or somebody else in the group, know where to find it before hitting the trail.

Expect to be back in Toronto by 8:00 PM. However, if conditions on the trail or on the road are not ideal, for safety reasons we will not rush on the trail or on the road. Please make sure that you’ll have flexibility for a late return.
