According to their website, the Long Sault Conservation Area has "close to 400 hectares of mature forest, plantation, wetland and meadow." It adds that "the area is considered an important core wildlife area because of the diversity and size of habitats that it contains." Sounds good to me. Janet Eagleson's recent book on Toronto-region hikes, "Nature Hikes," gives a description of this area along with some enticing photos. I'd like to check it out since it is open all year round and allows for mountain biking as well as cross-country-skiing when the snow gets too deep for even the widest of knobby tires. | |||||||
