Note: Drivers will get preference on the waiting list. I'll increase the maximum number of participants as we get more drivers. You can also meet us directly at Smokey Hollow - I'll move you to the attendee list.

This is a D3 photo hike (you're welcome even if you don't have a camera, but want to participate in a slow-poke hike). As part of this hike, we'll cover the Bruce trail and some of its side trails in the following areas:

Grindstone Creek Escarpment Valley: We'll start hiking at the Smokey Hollow Resource Management Area, near the Great Falls (aka Waterdown Falls). As the Grindstone Creek gradually descends the Niagara Escarpment, it forms numerous pretty rapids, including the Grindstone Cascade.

Clappison Escarpment Woods: This area features mixed coniferous-deciduous forests with 25 butterfly species and 39 bird species. Several small, intermittent tributaries to the Grindstone Creek rise in the Clappison Woods. We'll take a lunch break after exiting the Woods, near the stormwater management pond.

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $26.32 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Monday, April 29, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:

This hike will go on in case of moderate rain. It'll be canceled only if a severe thunderstorm is forecast.
There are no washrooms along the path. Trees and bushes are your best friends.
