Short Hills - Bert Lowe Side Trail(23k @ 5k/hr) (6/8/2014)

Itinerary:

Terrain: Mixed. Fairly urban. There will be some gradual climb but for the most part it is either along Welland Canal or railway tracks. Smaller sections of forested area and dense bush. There will be bridge, tunnel and road crossings. Length of the hike is 23 km, average pace is 5 km/h.

Route: This is a loop. Start at 30.9 on the main trail and take Bert Lowe side trail. We will hike the Bert Lowe side trail till it meets Bruce Trail again at 20.2 where we will take the main trail and hike back to where we started. Bruce Trail Map 2 & 3.

This hike is suitable for experienced intermediate or advanced hikers. Hikers coming on this event should have D4 level experience. This means previous experience of 15 - 20 km hikes and an average pace of 5 km/hr.

Those willing to drive (mention # of passengers) and regular hikers will be given preference on the waiting list.

Parking: Park at Decew House Park (30.9 on the main trail). 2399 Decew Rd, Fonthill, ON
