WOOOHOOO!! SKI DAY!!

We've got snow!! Nothing better than going XC skiing or snowshoeing up in Collingwood for the day. If you can hike, you can snowshoe, it's pretty easy. So if you don't think you like winter, come find out why it's the best time of year!

Scenic Caves is right next door to Blue Mountain and has 27 km of very pretty snowshoe and groomed cross country trails
Bonus! Snowshoers... There's also a 126 metre suspension footbridge that's 25 meters above the ground. On a clear day you can see along Georgian Bay.

THE PLAN
Carpool will depart from the Old York Mills Road exit from York Mills Station Station at 9:00am. (Check TTC for route info. Subways start running late on Sunday). When we get to Scenic Caves we'll split into groups depending on who wants to do what. Check out the trail maps here.... The cafe and facilities are basic so you may want to bring your own food and snacks. We will leave Scenic Caves by 4:30 pm and be back at York Mills by 7pm

COSTS: $19+ HST for a XC/snowshoe trail pass. Rentals are extra.... Full rental rates are here. (Note: MEC and Europebound also have good rental rates.)
Based on 15 people we might qualify for a group discount.
Beginners "Learn To Ski" class: Scenic Caves offer a 30 minute introductory “classic ski” lesson for 6 people or less. You'll learn the basics of skiing on flats, uphill (herringbone), and downhill (snowplow). Cost: $15.00 +tax per person

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Event details may change depending on snow. Weather info is here

NO SHOWS: Anyone dropping out after the registration cutoff will receive a no show. Remember to show respect for the people on the waiting list and if you can't attend, remove yourself BEFORE the cutoff time to give others time to adjust their lives and join in. Thanks in advance!

For drivers, and possible drivers…
1. How many passengers can you take with you, if you take skis and if you don’t take skis? Also, can you take skis on roof racks? Important for people with long skis.

2. Are you taking skis up with you? Or will you rent them?
3. If you are taking your skis, how long are they? – Please estimate if you are unsure.

Due to the number of no shows and last minute drop outs on some of my previous events, I may initially limit this to participants with decent attendance records.

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $79.98 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Sunday, April 28, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.
