Itinerary:

Let's enjoy a snowy weekend at Pinery Provincial Park ! This is a great introduction to winter camping for non-campers, as we will be staying in a heated Yurt at night and snowshoeing and Cross Country skiing during the day. The Yurt is a soft sided structure with bunk beds, electric heating, a table with 4 chairs, and an electrical outlet. Our campsite has a campfire outside the Yurt and we will also have to cook our meals outdoors. The park has heated washrooms a short walk away from the Yurt.

The plan is to drive up to Pinery Provincial Park on Friday evening after work and stay the first night at our Yurt. Saturday and Sunday will be spent exploring the trails in the park on snowshoes or XC skis and we will have our dinner by the campfire on Saturday night.

The Yurt accommodates 6 people in two bunk beds, each including a single and double mattress, same-sex ( or couple)sharing may be necessary. Please sign-up only if you are ok with this.

All planning will be done by email and phone.
Please indicate the gear you have in your notes. You are responsible for bringing required individual gear but we will share common gear like stoves and pots for cooking and tea.

Required Items to Bring:
  • * Hiking or Backpacking boots
  • * Snowshoes or XC skis. These can be rented in Toronto ( there are no rentals in the park)
  • * Technical wicking clothing + spare and rain gear
  • * warm sleeping bag (the yurt should be heated, so a three season bag would be great)
  • * Stove and cooking gear (shared)
  • * Personal First Aid Kit
  • * Day Pack/Backpack (to carry water and lunch during our hikes)
  • * Food for 2 lunches, snacks. We will be making a vegetarian communal dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, with the cost of food shared. Please indicate in the notes if you are ok with this. If not, please bring your own dinner and breakfast and cooking pots.
  • * Water Bottle (1lt min)
