Come join us for the Lions Foundation 25th annual "Walk-a-Dog-a-Thon"!

This is a really fun event! You don't even need a dog to participate; you only need a interest in walking 5 km to raise much-needed funds for a very good cause. There are prizes and incentives for fund raising, a Silly Pooch contest for four-legged participants, and free goodies ... not to mention the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing your efforts are making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Since 1983, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides have been helping Canadians with disabilities live with more mobility, safety and independence. The Lions Foundation has three Dog Guide programs: Canine Vision Canada, Hearing Ear Dogs of Canada, and Special Skills Dogs of Canada. It can take up to two years and cost up to $25,000 to raise and train each of these skilled, gentle, and patient Guide Dogs, which are then provided free of charge to individuals with visual impairments, hearing impairments, and physical or medical disabilities. The dogs bring their new owners mobility, peace of mind and independence, and often a new lease on life. As you can imagine, the waiting list for one of these amazing animals is lengthy!

There is no registration fee, and 100 per cent of donations go towards raising, training, and placing Dog Guides. Since the Lions Foundation of Canada has national sponsors who generously cover most of the organizational costs, every cent you raise goes towards Dog Guides.

YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT at the Purina Walk for Dog Guides website. When you register, please ensure that you are signing up for the May 13th walk in High Park, and state that you are part of the Toronto Outdoor Club team.

After the walk, we'll meet up for refreshments on the patio of the Grenadier Restaurant.


Required Items to Bring:
Weather-appropriate clothing
Running shoes
Poopie bags (if you are bringing a dog)
A leash (ditto)
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Bring a few dollars for a post-walk snack at the Grenadier Restaurant (which has no problem with dogs being on the patio; at least, they didn't the last time Milo and I were there!).
Bring some doggie treats if you want lots of new friends!

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Enter the park through the main gate on Bloor Street. Follow the signs to the Walk for Dog Guides area. If you are coming by subway, get off at the High Park stop and walk south to Bloor. The park's main entrance is at Bloor and Colborne Lodge Drive.
