Itinerary:
The Toronto International Film Festival

In addition to being a TOC volunteer, I’m also a TIFF volunteer! Today TIFF launches its 37th year of showing films from around the world, in what has become the world’s largest and most important public and industry film festival out there. Make no mistake, people do come from around the globe to attend TIFF, and yet almost everyone I speak to that lives in Toronto has never attended a single TIFF film during the festival! Hard to believe, since, “…Toronto has grown from its place as the most influential fall film festival to the most influential film festival, period…” 1.
And if that hasn't convinced you yet, take a peek at the stars and film-makers that are expected to be in Tdot this year.

This day-time hike will take us past each of the 10 theatre venues which host this year’s TIFF films, plus the TIFF box office. I will explain how easy it is to attend a TIFF film, the ins and outs of buying tickets, what “members” are, and with any luck I’ll have time to regale you with a story or two of what I’ve seen and heard from past years.

This will be a one way hike. We’ll end up at the TIFF Bell Lightbox (TIFF headquarters), which officially opened on Sept 12, 2010. If there’s time and room, we might be able to have a quick bite to eat at the “Cantina” attached.

Stuff to be concerned about

  • Start will be near Bloor & Bathurst (subway)
  • End will be at Bell Lightbox (350 King St W - Close to St Andrew (King W) Subway Stn.)
  • I have a TIFF shift that afternoon, so I need to leave ON TIME. Anyone not there will be marked as a no show.
  • The hike is just a little over 8 km.
  • We will hike at varying speeds but when necessary, the pace could be up to 5 km/hr.
  • The weather might not be nice that day – it might rain! We will go rain or shine, so don’t bother to sign up if you won’t go in the rain.
  • The end location is very close to the box office, so if I’ve managed to inspire you, you can go get a ticket to a film after we’re done!
