Itinerary:

Start your journey to fitness and learn lots too! We’ll meet up once a week (separate event each week so people can join us or drop off as they like) throughout the running season. Every 4 weeks we'll repeat the previous week in case a week gets canceled or to enable people to catch up with the group. The structure of each session may vary, but will generally include:

  • A talk on a running related topic.
  • Proper stretching.
  • Go running.
  • Proper cool-down and stretching.
  • Q&A – Address any issues that come up.

We’ll meet each week on the North East corner of Don Mills Road & Steeles Avenue @ 6:30pm.

    Topics of discussion may include:

  • Technical Clothing (Cotton is rotten)
  • Shoes (Support/Technology)
  • Motivation (Getting out there)
  • Nutrition for runners
  • Core/X-Training and injury prevention
  • Goal Setting (SMART)
  • Stretching/Warming up for Runners
  • Build the house (Base training, strength training, speed training)
  • Dehydration and Overtraining
  • Running in different weather conditions
  • Heart rate training
  • Technology for Runners

Each week's run with the group will need to be repeated 2 more times before the next week's event (to ensure you don't fall behind). This means that you will run the same run 3 times per week as we build up the time & distance over the season.

You should always consult your physician before beginning any new exercise program. Running can be one of the most rewarding activities to take up, but it is also one of the highest impact activities to your body and cardiovascular system. As a general rule you should not participate in this program if you have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of less than 18.5 or greater than 30. You can calculate your BMI by clicking here.

Please show up ready to run (changed and proper shoes on). We're meeting at the corner of an intersection. There is a small mall with washrooms if need be on the same corner. So come early if you need to use them. To keep the night efficient we all need to be present and ready to go at the appointed time.

This week's run: We'll be running 4 minutes followed by a 1 minute walk break at a pace around 7 minutes per kilometer (nice and easy). We'll repeat this interval 4 times.

About 60% of new runners get injured (to varying degrees) during their first year of training. The program we’ll be following will be structured to minimize these ill effects. Be aware that the volunteer running the program is not licensed or certified by any organization. He worked for a national retailer as a running clinic instructor for 3 seasons. The information provided is not to be taken as "medically correct". What may work for one person may not for another. The onus is on the member to independently verify any information/opinion provided.
