Are you ready for another real Canadian outdoor adventure? If you been out with me before you know what to expect. If you have not been out with me before you can check some of my previous trips including my Survival Series. This trip will incorporate elements from the survival series trips.
Situated between Parry Sound and Barrie on the east coast of Georgian Bay, the McCrae Lake Wilderness Area posses the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. This is a challenging but rewarding hike. We'll pass by spectacular views of the lake from atop granite cliffs, windswept white pines, bedrocks, beaver dams and wetlands. The challenge on this adventure will be to covering the planned distance of ~35km and surviving the cool October night. There will be some beaver dam and stream crossings. So come prepared for some fun. The focus will be on light weight backpacking techniques. So ideally no tents would be the goal. We'll be using debris/garbage bag/tarp shelters. You can get as creative as you want. Early fall weight sleeping bag and pad (optional). If you're a keener, sleep by the fire under your tarp shelter. Cooking over the open fire at night. Dress in layers. The trip will follow the format of the Nov 20-21, 2010 early winter camping trip. You can check out the photos. This trip is open to experienced hikers with overnight fall camping experience. You need to be able to be confortable bushwhacking on this adventure. You need to be able to hike on trails at around 5 km/hr and bushwhack at 2.5 km/hr. Pre-trip details will be worked out via email and phone calls. | |||||||
