Itinerary:
It's that time of year again -- and a sure sign of spring -- when the maple sap is flowing in the trees! We can "tap" into this at the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival. This is the last weekend for this year's festivities, so it's the perfect time to gather and for hiking and eating maple syrup products at the Kortright Centre for Conservation, in Woodbridge.

Our carpool will leave from Downsview station at 9:30 a.m., to arrive at the conservation area in advance of a maple syrup walk and guided tour at 10:30. After the 1-hour tour, we can break into smaller groups and explore the conversation centre; following that, we'll go on a group hike.

A few highlights of things to do in small groups before the group hike:

  • do a 1-hour tour of the Archetype Sustainable House (at 11:30); note that pre-registration for this tour is recommended. To pre-register, please call 416- 667-6295, select #3 or e-mail cmacgillivray@trca.on.ca
  • hop on the horse-drawn wagon ride
  • enjoy sap sampling, or see maple syrup demonstrations
  • see a magic show (at 11:30), or watch the strolling entertainer
  • and, perhaps most importantly, eat delicious pancakes with maple syrup!!

The cost for food varies in price from about $2.50 for a pancake and a drink and $20.00 for a family platter (which includes 6 pancakes, 6 sausages and 4 drinks). You could also pick up some fresh maple syrup in a bottle to take home with you.

In the early afternoon, we'll meet back up in the large group and go on a group hike along some of the beautiful trails in the Kortright Centre; after that, we'll start our journeys home.

Drivers, and possible drivers: when you sign up, please write into the "comments" section how many people you can bring in your car, including you.
