Start the canoe season with a two-day canoe course taught by the experts of Wolf Den Expeditions. Get ORCKA certified ! Course Description For two days we will be learning a series of paddling strokes, canoe manoeuvres, rescues, canoe and water safety. There are no prerequisites for the course, and its a great way for a beginner to learn new skills, or just to brush up on some past skills and refine paddling and canoe handling techniques. The second day will also have solo canoe handling instruction. Depending on the weather and temperature of the water, there may be a swimming pool session for the rescue portion of the course on the second day. All the canoes and paddling equipment will be provided. At the completion of the course you will receive an ORCKA Flatwater certification that is highly regarded all across Canada.

The Plan. Saturday We will drive from our carpool location at Downsview to Shade Mills conservatory at Cambridge, Ontario. We'll start day 1 of the course with registration, signing waivers and getting a safety briefing. Next, we get outfitted with our boats and the basic gear required for our course. Day 1 will have mainly tandem canoe instruction The course will blend classroom and on the water instruction. After the course on day 1, we will set up camp at Pinehurst Lake camping ground. There is an option of going on a short hike before having a freshly cooked, hot dinner by a campfire. Sunday Day 2 will involve canoe resecue and solo canoe handling skills. This will be a full day. We will depart around 5 pm for the drive home. This event is on a first pay basics. People on the waiting list that pay will be given priority after the payment cut off date. The organizer reserves the right to remove a member who does not have the proper gear or skill set for this event. | |||||||

1.Everybody needs to bring their camping gear and their own food (breakfast, lunch,snacks. Saturday night dinner will be shared and cooked at the campsite 2.We’ll try and arrange shared resources ( tents, etc). 3.Children age 14 and up are welcome on the event but must be accompanied by their parent. Let me know in a note if you are planning to bring your kids. 4. Dress in layers. NO COTTON CLOTHES !!!! 5. Be prepared to be outside all day Saturday and Sunday rain or shine. You'll be wet anyways. 6. Bring lots of high energy snacks to keep yourselves fueled up and warm. - Registration is NOT COMPLETE until you've signed up and paid by the registration cut off date. The money must be in the TOC's possession by that date. No exceptions. - When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with full refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met. For any events where TOC needs a minimum number of participants, there will be absolutely no refund of money if you cancel. - We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in TOC events. - Details of this event are subject to undergo a change at any point in time, with or without warning. - Questions about equipment or rentals? Cost Includes: | Cost of the two-day course which includes 2 days of instruction, canoe rentals, conservation area entry fees and all taxes ($180) + camping fees, reservation, paypal charge of 3% ($20). Any extra monies collected will be returned to the members at the conclusion of the trip based on final cost numbers. Carpool cost and shared dinner on Saturday are extra. | ||||||
