Itinerary:

XC SKIING AT SCENIC CAVES, COLLINGWOOD

Ganaraska Ski Centre is closed due to icy trail conditions. So let's go north to Scenic Caves where the conditions are better! The 22 km of snowshoe and groomed cross country trails are very pretty and wind through a 200 year old forest of maple, beech and oak trees. Bonus! There's also a 126 metre suspension footbridge to snowshoe across. It's 25 meters above the ground and on a clear day you can see along Georgian Bay, from Blue Mountain towards Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Christian Island, and the distant shores of the Penetanguishene Peninsula. (So bring snowshoes as the trail pass covers both options!)

THE PLAN
Carpool will meet at the passenger pickup at Downsview Station at 8:30am. (Check TTC for route info. Subways start running early but buses may be on holiday schedule).
Skiing - meet outside the Centre at 11 am and we'll break off into groups depending on experience. See the trail map.
Lunch - Those who want to take a break for lunch can meet inside around 1 - 1:30pm, and then head back out to the trails for more snow fun in the afternoon. The cafe and facilities are basic so you may want to bring your own food and snacks.

COSTS: A crosscountry/snowshoe day trail pass is $18.50 + HST. Rentals are extra: $20 for skis/boots/poles and $15 for snowshoes(+HST).
Based on 15 people we should qualify for a group discount.

DIFFICULTY RATING: D2
Beginners: If you've never skied before, you may benefit from a "Learn To Ski" class. This is a a 30 minute introductory “classic ski” lesson, in a small group format (6 or less). You'll learn the basics of skiing on flats, uphill (herringbone), and downhill (snowplow).
Cost: $10.00 per person (Email me before Saturday 10 am to book. Reservations are required 48 hrs in advance, leave it to the last minute and you will be out of luck!)

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Event details may change depending on snow. Weather info
