Itinerary:

This out and back hike is in the Wilderness Section of the Ganaraska Trail (Devil's Lake Section). The Ganaraska wilderness is noted for its roughness.

We will be heading to the Devil's Lake Access point and hiking out to Petticoat Junction (I wish I knew where that name came from) and lunching around Cooney Lake.

At lunch we will work on winter fire starting skills.

Along the way, we will traverse the forest, ravines, beaver dams and lakes. If we're lucky, we may see signs of bears, wolves, foxes. Note that there will be some beaver dam crossings; hikers must be prepared for wet feet!

Participants must be able to hike at a minimum of 4-4.5k/hour pace to come on this hike. We will do an out-and-back hike of approx. 22k.

Our hike will go, snow or shine (and even if there is rain).

The TTC subway does not start running until 0900 on New Years Day so you may need to plan an alternate mode of transportation to get to the listed event carpool location on time. Check out the new TTC Trip Planner to figure out the best way to meet up on time with your coordinator. You can specify the time at which you need to ARRIVE at your destination, and it is recommended that you put in a time at least 15 minutes before the scheduled TOC event departure time. Please note that the tool is a beta version and the TTC are still working out the bugs. If a route looks a bit funny, confirm your directions with TTC Customer Service.
