Itinerary:
(carpool, hike, bring-your-own pack lunch, hike, pub style dinner, carpool)

Sometime in the spring of 09 a rather boring and tedious section of the Bruce Trail that ran along some dusty side roads for about 4.5 km was finally rerouted into the forest. The new route traverses hardwood forest, a stile and the edge of a farm field, "where the views across the valley to the north are spectacular" .
In order for us to make a loop hike, we're going to first hike along the old trail, take a break for lunch, and then return to the cars via the shiny NEW trail!
(which, by the way, yours truly helped to build... I had a personal hand in those steps you see here!)
Since this new route was created after the last edition of the Bruce Trail guide printing (edition 25), it's not as well-known yet.
Let's get out there and explore it before the masses do!

Fall colours: since it's been a cold and windy autumn so far, the fall colour explosion isn't going to be the best, or the longest. Therefore: Carpe Diem! Let's get out and experience what we can while we can! But don't forget your camera, we'll be hiking at a moderate pace and taking the time for snapshots along the way.

Boots on the Bruce: Once again this year, a particular boot company is donating money to the Bruce Trail Conservancy for every pair of boots photographed and submitted (on the trail). At some point during the hike I'll be taking a "group boot photo" so that I can submit it on our behalf.

And finally: dinner, where we can unwind, warm up, and reminisce about the sights and experiences of the day.

STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Our hike will total approx 12-13 km. We'll be going ~ 3.5 km/hr.
  • It does contain hills, to quote: "Here, it ascends and follows the top of an eastern ridge, then descends through a central valley before climbing to the top of an even higher western ridge"
  • Our hike will go, rain or shine (and there is a chance of rain). Do not sign up unless you are prepared to go out in the rain.
  • There are no "facilities" on this trail. Be familiar with, and prepared for proper trail etiquette.
  • Dinner is part of the event. Although the location is TBA, it might be prior to returning to the city.
  • Total car pool time is not included in event time. I expect to leave the city at 9:30 AM, and return approx. 7:00 PM.
