Itinerary:

Let's go canoeing deep in the Canadian wilderness! 3 nights of camping & 3 days of canoeing in Killarney Provincial Park, North of Algonquin, deep in the Canadian Shield.

Leaving Friday afternoon, the plan is to spend 1 night car camping on George Lake, 1 night on Kakakise Lake and 1 night on Killarney Lake. It could also include a climb to "the Crack" and up a trail off of Killarney Lake.

Details: There will be AT LEAST THREE 1400 m portages + other smaller ones. The cost will be approx $140 to $160 per person, which will include the full outfitting (canoe, life preservers, cost of camping fees and carpool costs.) Participants will be asked to buy food for meals - these costs will be shared and are included in the cost estimate of the trip.
You will need to attend a pre-trip meeting to ensure your spot. The pre-trip meeting will be held on either Tues. Aug. 29th or Wed. Aug 30th (whichever is the best date for most people at 6:30 pm at Chalkers' Pub (247 Marlee Ave, near Glencairn subway). At that time people must give a $40 deposit to ensure your spot, and the remainder will be paid at the end of the trip.
As far as your canoeing ability - you must have canoed and portaged before. You must be at a level of fitness to paddle for a few hours. You must be able to bring everything in one pack. You must be comfortable being on water in all types of weather.
Killarney is about a 4.5 hour drive away. We would be back in Toronto for the evening of Mon. June 14.
For most people, doing this trip will require you to use up 1.5 vacation days. Please MAKE SURE you have made appropriate arrangements with your employer BEFORE you sign up on the trip.
