Itinerary:

This is the first part of a learn to canoe series, designed for members who have never canoed before, or want to improve their stern abilities, in preparation for a multi-day backcountry canoe trip. This first session will cover the basics of bow strokes, sterning, the "J" stroke, getting in and out of your canoe, lifting and carrying canoe, plus more. Canoe capsizing, rescue and advanced maneovers will be covered in a future session

Lifejackets will be mandatory, although there are no plans to go in the water (it's too cold!!). A copy of "The Canoeist's Manual" by Omer Stringer will be given to attendees.

Participants will split the cost for the rental of canoes, paddles and lifejackets.
