SLOWPOKE HIKE: HOCKLEY VALLEY

Since so many people are wait-listed for Christine's Slowpoke hike, she suggested that a second one be offered. So here it is but with a few variations: earlier departure; no dinner; eliminate one of the loops; and back at the cars at 4:00 or slightly before.

Distance: 11 km Terrain: very hilly with rolling sections

Come explore the beautiful Hockley Valley, hiking up and down rolling hills with meadows, hardwood forest and great views along the Niagara Escarpment. The hike will be a mix of main Bruce trail and side trails, with a stop to eat our packed lunches somewhere along the way.

This is s SLOWPOKE hike. I like to stop and take in the sights and smells of nature. However, note that Christain mentioned to be prepared for a good cardio workout going up those hills! I promise to wait for those that get winded. We will hike at the speed of the slowest hiker (about 3-4 km/hour) and stick together. We'll have some photo and lookout breaks along the way.

Ideally we will do 11km, which is Christine's hike less one of the loops. However, if it we have not made it half way through the route by 1:00, we will just retrace our steps.

Needless to say -- if you’re a really fast hiker, this is NOT the event for you – sorry! Priority will be given to people who are currently on the waiting list for Christine's hike and those new to the Toronto Outdoor Club. (Welcome, new members!)

DRIVERS, WHEN YOU SIGN UP, PLEASE ANSWER HOW MANY PASSENGERS YOU CAN TAKE IN YOUR CAR. (And thanks in advance for offering to take the rest of us - we couldn't do it without you!)

Please be respectful of the drivers' cars and bring a bag to store muddy footwear for the return journey - and something clean to wear on your feet in the car.

There is no "meet at event" option for this hike. All hikers must meet at the carpool point and travel together.

NO SHOWS: Anyone dropping out within 24 hours of the start of the event will receive an AUTOMATIC NO SHOW - no exceptions. Please respect the people on the waiting list and if you can't attend, remove yourself BEFORE the cutoff time to give others time to adjust their lives and join in. Thanks in advance!
