Itinerary:

MONOCLIFFS PROVINICAL PARK

Mono Cliffs provincial park is about 14 kilometres northeast of Orangeville. To quote the park’s website, “Mono Cliffs contain a significant section of the Niagara Escarpment, including crevice caves, an upland limestone plain and talus slopes. The park features two prominent masses of rock, separated by erosion from the main rock body. When this occurs, the resultant feature is called an outlier.”

We’ll hike along this outlier in parts, as well as checking out some great lookouts. It’ll be a moderate hike of rolling hills alternating with flat sections -- and at least one steep climb/descent. You can also expect uneven terrain and likely some muddy bits.

We'll start at the eastern entrance and hike several of the loops on this map. Please note that we will hike at an average pace of about 4.0 km/h so this will be great for those who want to take photos and get in better hiking condition. However, you still have to be comfortable for hiking four or five solid hours: the estimated maximum distance is 16.3 km. If you cannot hike the entire distance, please do not sign up: there will be no drop-offs. Likewise, if you want to walk a fast pace or leave the group, this is not the hike for you – sorry!

I believe it costs $11 to park – and bring loonies and toonies as I’m told the pay-and-display machine only accepts coins.

We will meet and plan to leave Downsview subway by 10 a.m. and should be at the trail head by 11:30 a.m.

For this hike, there will be no meeting at the event. Please meet at the carpool location. If you can't do this, please do not sign up for this hike. Also note: We won’t be stopping on the way from the carpool to the park, so please eat breakfast and get your coffee in advance! Remember to bring a lunch: we'll likely stop a couple of hours into our hike, at McCarsten's Lake. Please also make sure you have at least one to two litres of water, as well as other things recommended for hikes on TOC event checklists.

After the hike, we'll see if anyone wants to go for dinner or a drink before heading back to the city.

NO SHOWS: Anyone dropping out within 24 hours of the start of the event will receive an automatic no show - no exceptions. Please respect the waiting list and if you can't attend remove yourself before the cutoff time (Thurs 14th June @ 10am)!
