Itinerary: | |||||||
In what has become something of an annual tradition for the TOC, we have booked 7 sites this weekend (390 through 396) at Bon Echo. There is a maximum of 6 people / 3 tents per site, each including one of the volunteers. Each group will be organised seperately for equipment and food sharing. We will arrange the carpool as needed. There has been some feedback already, so if you would like to camp with a particular coordinator, please indicate your choice in the notes field. This will make it easier for us to keep track.
Bon Echo is known for its breathtaking nature, including Mazinaw Rock. This 1.5-kilometre sheer rock face rises 100 metres above Mazinaw Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Ontario, and features over 260 native pictographs – the largest visible collection in Canada. There is plenty to do, such as hiking, canoeing (canoe and kayak rentals are available at the park), swimming, etc.. We will have two scheduled events: Departure for the Abes and Essens Trail (26km hike round trip) will be at 6am Saturday. Those wishing to complete the Kishkebus Canoe Route Sunday, are asked to be packed and off their campsite in time to depart by 10am. Both of these will take around 6 hours. FAQs re: Car camping with the TOC Payment: The payment of $15.00 will be due three weeks before we go in order to reserve your spot. It is NOT refundable after the due date as each volunteer has paid for their campsite ahead of time. Wait list and payment dates: If you really want to come camping but are on the waiting list, you can send in money prior to the payment cutoff date. If everyone has paid and there are no extra spots, you will receive a refund. However, if a spot is available, you have priority. Car pools and arrival times: We can show up any time on Friday, but must vacate the campsites by 2pm on Sunday. Car pool arrangements will be made with the help of the coordinator. In the case of waiting lists, a driver may replace a non-driver (or someone who choses to meet at the site) if we have a lack of car space. Carpool drivers will make accomodations to pick up people and equipment at a convenient place and time. Never been camping? Don't worry - many people have spare equipment and tent space, you may only need to borrow a sleeping bag. Car camping is a fun and easy way to introduce yourself to camping in Ontario. Feel free to contact the coordinator if you have any questions or concerns. | |||||||
