Itinerary: | |||||||
Length: 12Km terrain: several very steep climbs, one long incline, rolling hills. Not going anywhere for Easter? Take this holiday opportunity to hike the Rouge River Valley system, a wildlife and nature refuge that is still within city limits. The hike starts near the Zoo, and follows the escarpment and Rouge rivers down to Kingston Rd. this is probably the only hike you will go on that has a McDonald's at the halfway point! That means real toilets, unless you really feel like a Big Mac. The hike is challenging with lots of steep hills, so if you have poles I recommend taking them. The rivers are typically deep and fast moving in the Spring and there is plenty of wildlife in the system. If this is your first hiking trip you may find this challenging. I recommend Mono Cliffs as a good starting point if you are unsure, but we will be going at a slower pace than we would midsummer! | |||||||
