EVENT DETAILS
So, this is my first attempt at coordinating a
hike at Rouge Valley in 11 years.
So, if it doesn't go well, I will learn from
it
and improve it for another
year.
So my evil plan is
Meet at the main entrance of the Rouge Park,
beside the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre and
near
the Toronto
Zoo.
Complete a 11 KM loop of the park walking
along
the Orchard, Mast, Cedar & Visa trails,
We'll do a lunch stop at the Rouge Park
campground, about 6.5 KM into the hike.
This hike will primarily be on dirt or gravel
trails.
In terms of hills, there's probably about 4
climbs
of at least 50 meters and
several other
smaller ones.
We'll attempt to stop and use the washroom at
the
Glen Rouge Campground.
Otherwise, we'll do a stop for lunch / snack
at the same time.
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS
Wear long pants.
Tuck your shirt into your
pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs.
Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more
easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or
Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall
grass.
Check yourself for ticks immediately after the
event, you can ask me for help for removal.
When you get home, shower and do a full body
check, if you find a tick, remove it with
tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin
for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting
Lyme disease is negligible.
For more information, see Ticks
