Write Up:
I wasn’t sure what kind of reaction I’d get when I first posted the notice for Away From Her. Who wants to spend a Saturday evening watching a movie by a rookie director about Alzheimer’s, ageing, and love? About a dozen TOCers, it turns out, a few of whom had already completed another event (Justin’s hike) that same day. And we all agreed that it was a film worth seeing.

Sarah Polley did an excellent job directing her first movie; we agreed that the rave reviews garnered by this film are more than justified. The performances by Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent were particularly good. Afterwards, a number of us confessed that we found it difficult to watch at times, as it really was heartbreakingly sad. Personally, I'm glad I watched it with the group, as it would have been really hard to pick myself up after seeing it alone.

Following the film, we went to Spring Rolls, where the mood was considerably lighter!
