Sun, Mar 23 2014 - Toronto Island birding (View Original Event Details)
|
Despite a widespread TTC disruption and a high of just -10C, we had a nice little birding tour of the Toronto Islands.
We started on the north side of Ward's Island, where it was very cold and windy, and along the edge of the ice floes, we saw lots of:
- longtail ducks
- lesser scaups
Many mallards were huddled under the bridge to Algonquin Island. On the other side we saw:
- a barred owl, probably the highlight of the trip!
- lots of red-winged blackbirds
- mourning doves
- an American robin
- a young red-tailed hawk
Then we walked along the boardwalk on the north side of the island, where we saw:
- common goldeneyes
- buffleheads
- common merganser
- maybe a hooded merganser
