We arrived at Big Chute for the start of our winter hike and where greeted with a snowman in the parking lot. There was around 4-6 inches of snow on the ground.

It was an overcast day with temperatures above freezing. The day was filled with bushwhacking, ATV/snowmobile trails, stream and dam crossings and other animal and ski trails.

We deviated form our planned route slightly due to our extra effort/time required to naviagate the snow and extra slipper trails. We managed to get to our plan B camp at 4 pm.

Our plan B camp was at the same spot as Gary's Survival Series #8 and some of use took advantage and ended up sleeping in these shelters.

By 6pm , a light drizzle of rain started. We set up drying racks and managed to more or less dry our socks and boots for the next day.

After a quick supper some off us retired to the shelter to escape the light rain.

By Sunday morning, I felt well rested after 12 hours of sleeping in pine branches.

It rain all night off and on. But by morning it stopped. We actually had a sunny sky for the first few hours of the hike. The trek back started with 2k's of ATV trail and bushwhacking and then following a water saturated ATV trail.

Back at Big Chute we piled into the cars and had a late lunch at Coldwater where we traded stories and had a few good laughts.

See you all soon.

Gary
