Fri, Aug 11 2006 - Movie: The Descent (View Original Event Details)

Event Coordinator(s): Jo
Participants:Jo, Saif, Alan Lyons

Write Up:

Definitely a better-than-average horror film. Well worth seeing in a theatre - it enhances the dark, claustrophic cinematography (it is, after all, a film about being stuck underground). The characters were more interesting than the usual gang of teenagers. There were more undertones to the plot than in the average horror movie. Some reviewers criticize the last third or so, when it turns from psychological suspense into more of a scary monster film. But it delivered what it promised - lots of scares and a haunting ending. If you do see it, check out the original ending on YouTube afterwards - it's slightly different than the version playing in cinemas.

Strangely, Saif and Jo both wanted to go caving again! Maybe if we'd gone just a bit further into the Warsaw Caves...Alan confirmed he does not want to enter a cave, at least for a while.

One point reinforced by this movie that should be a TOC rule: never take a smiling group photo BEFORE an event. That's just asking for trouble.
