It turned out to be a lovely day for a hike in the sugar bush and with a great group of people. We had a fun tour leader who showed us the in’s and out’s of maple syrup making, meeting some pioneer folk along the way. Kids abounded everywhere reminding us of those crazy spring days. Grandma Maple showed us how to boil down the sap to make the sweet syrup we all know and after our group leader told us a story about Rocky Raccoon and his misadventures in the sugar shack, Grandpa Maple sang us a song about the glorious gold liquid

Then it was time for pancakes and maple syrup. Yum. We just missed the rush of people proving that the early bird gets the syrup. Afterward we let our tummy’s digest a bit as we enjoyed a short wee bit of a wagon ride with a couple of feisty Clydesdales pulling us along.

We then set out on a hike along the forest & power trails trying to keep along the alphabetized trails. Not as easy as one would think. We came upon the newly built sustained house, eavesdropped on a private tour and peeked in the windows. Next we found the energy cottage where we spied on the workshop inside. We continued on to tour the Kortright trails some more but decided to finish off earlyish and set home.

Thanks to everyone for an absolutely wonderful day!

Sue
