Write Up:
Saturday dawned cloudy with an easterly wind. That doesn't bode well for bike touring, but it's just fine for Allan Stokell because he was riding his fully loaded touring bike from his Beaches home to the TOC seminar on the foundations of bike touring.

When you build a house, you start with the foundation, and the same is true of learning how to tour. Participants received a PowerPoint presentation by Allan on the finer points of safe cycling including some quotations from both the Highway Traffic Act and the Municipal Code.

Jim then introduced and defined touring as well as discussed the various parts of a bike and the requirements for bike touring. Allan topped off the first part of the seminar with a short talk about required clothing.

After the break Allan talked about what can go wrong while on a tour and steps to prevent the nasty things from happening while Jim explained what fitness levels are required and talked about previous tours sponsored by TOC.

Things wrapped up with Allan doing a Touring 101 Jeopardy game that evaluated the success of the seminar.

"Excellent Introduction"
"Excellent presentation!"
Jim and Allan bring a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge"
"Very informative and inspiring"
"I found the stories to be the most informative part of the seminar"
