We all met up at the Downsview subway station at the civilized hour of 9:15 a.m. and made it to Hardwood Hills before 11:00. Those who were taking part in the lesson and renting - Ash, Sue, Kate, Kirsten - got their gear, and got it all on, only to find out that they had all been equipped with a classic/nordic ski package, and not a skate-ski package!! With the proper equipment on, we had time to practice on our own, until our instructor, Marcia became available. With Marcia, we headed to the teaching flats and practiced skate-skiing, first without poles (wine anyone?) and then with poles. The rhythm and coordination of it all IS a little tricky. Going uphill & downhill - nice S's Kirsten! - also proved challenging. We had a break for lunch where we caught up with Dave, who is no stranger to skate- skating & was skiing on his own. Sarah Goertz and Gary Ataman, from the other TOC group up at Hardwood Hills, joined us for lunch too. After lunch Lisa chose to do Nagano, Dave did Lillehammer or some other difficult, +12 km choice, and Kate, Kirsten, Sue and Ash headed out for Torino. We all returned around 4:00, exhausted and happy to have had lots of fresh air and sunshine. Cary joined Sue, Kate and Kirsten for the ride home. We all arrived back in Toronto safe and sound - wow, what a difference good road conditions make! Sue, Kate, Lisa and Ash grabbed some food and drinks at Chalkers. We had hoped to catch Victor there as well, but that didn't happen. A great day out! Thanks everyone!
