Write Up:
Toronto is a city full of caring and compassionate people. How else to explain the fantastic turnout on a Holiday Monday to help sort food, make boxes, and battle with finicky tape guns?

An eager and speedy group of TOCers set the Daily Bread Food Bank on fire, not literally of course, with our efficiency and dedication. We made quick work of the tasks assigned to us which ranged from assembling cardboard boxes to actually sorting out all the different types of donated foodstuffs.

The flourish with which Brooke and Faye labeled boxes left them both covered with marker ink. Fortunately no major paper cuts were reported and the only real struggles we faced were with uncooperative tape guns.

I'm happy to report that there were well over 200 volunteers for the morning shift. The group comprised of all ages and backgrounds making for an interesting 'snapshot' of Toronto.

We were treated to snacks and cold drinks at the break station. More importantly, we heard from a Food Bank representative who helped reminded how crucial it is for people to get out there and exercise their democratic duty by voting. In an ideal world places like the Food Bank would no longer be needed.

Of all the TOC events that I've organized thus far this is the one of which I'm most proud. It really warmed my heart to see folks set aside their spare time on a beautiful, sunny day to work inside a warehouse sorting food.

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention. ~Oscar Wilde
