ALGONQUIN - FALL HIKING!

PLEASE READ THIS IN FULL BEFORE YOU SIGN UP :)

There are a couple of spots for drivers who want to leave the city on Friday at 6:15 pm

OVERVIEW

Woohoo hiking in late fall in Algonquin! We will have a fun weekend, staying at the Wolfden! It's a fantastic hostel/eco lodge on the outskirts of Algonquin park, and has cosy bunkrooms and a large shared kitchen and communal areas. We have the whole place for the weekend. During the day we will hike some of the fantastic trails in Algonquin - from the wildlide on Mizzy Lake trail, to to the stunning views from Centennial Ridges, or the challenging 19km Provoking Lake there's something for everyone!

DATE, TIME, AND COST

We'll travel up Friday afternoon/evening and return on Sunday. I'll try to sort out a carpool that will accommodate people's individual schedules, depending on drivers. Please remember however, that the official leaving time is 4:00pm on Friday so we can avoid traffic.

The per person cost for the weekend's accommodation works out to approximately $60.00 (which includes a 3% transaction fee). This cost is due up front by paying the TOC's Treasurer. Payment must be received immediately when you sign up! People who haven't paid will be removed promptly!

If you're participating in the carpool, expect an additional cost on top of that for transportation. You will need to pay for that over the weekend so please bring cash.

ACCOMMODATIONS

There are several rooms available both in the main lodge and in the satellite cabins. Expect to share a room with 3-4 others (I'll try to help guide early risers to match with early risers to keep things copacetic, but there are no guarantees.)

There is a private room with a double bed available. Any two people who wish to take advantage of this may request them from me: the first to request AND PAY, (both of you) will get it. Confirm with me before paying that you're first in line for the room.

Communal bathrooms and showers are available in the main lodge.

Bedding and towels are provided.

ACTIVITIES

While there are hiking trails within a short walk of the Wolfden (not to mention a great waterfall) we're right on Algonquin's doorstep!

With this many people, there will be multiple groups heading out both days so there should be various levels of hikers to suit everyone. Generally, I will not be organizing any specific hikes or activities for everyone, you are free to decide what you want to do in collaboration with other participants. On Friday night I will lead a night hike so bring a headlamp if you want to come- maybe we will see some Northern Lights or do a wolf howl :)

For those who like photo hikes, I will be bringing my DSLR. It's a great time of year to see moose in Algonquin, plus there are some tracts of old growth forest I hope to check out. Big Pines is one of the newer trails and it's gorgeous. These are huge white pines that are 200-300 years old, and almost 40 meters tall.

PHOTOGHRAPHY: If there are photographers who want to go on an early 6:30 am photo shoot looking for wildlife please mention that in the Notes when you sign up.

In the evenings expect a social atmosphere upstairs in the loft talking or playing games (Cards Against Humanity, anyone?), and in all likelihood, a campfire outside. And there is a sauna :)

FOOD (yum!)

The Wolfden has a large, fully equipped kitchen available for our use.

Saturday evening we'll organize an (optional) potluck dinner. There will be veggie choices, however, please include info on any special dietary needs in the Notes when you sign up.
Also, if you would like to participate in a beer tasting, or some kind of beer and cheese pairing, again, mention it in the Notes when you sign up.

Mmmmmmm....Sunday morning there will be a group pancake breakfast (gluten free, dairy free an option, include in Notes). If you would like to participate please bring toppings.

Beyond that, meal planning will be up to each of you. (Though you may wish to look for like minded people on the trip or in your carpool. We can help here.)

DOGS

Dogs are always welcome on my events, however, they are not allowed inside the main building of Wolfden, they will have to stay in your car overnight. (You will need to arrange transportation.)

THE REST

Did we leave out anything? Questions? I will be sending out a survey to figure out carpool and accommodations about a week or so before the trip.

Looking forward to seeing you out there. :)
