Itinerary:
The Toronto Orienteering Club (another TOC, not to be confused with us!) offers beginners clinics for those interested in learning about orienteering. This is a useful skill to have were you ever to feel brave enough to venture off the trail and take up navigation.

As a sport, this is essentially running with a map and compass for navigation. The map will indicate a series of "control points," marked with a flag, in which you will have to navigate yourself to. An accompanying instruction sheet will indicate where the flag is located (i.e. on a stump). When you find the flag, you will have to punch your "card" to prove that you did find the control point. You need to get to as many control points over the time limit, so this is where your running skills come into play. The first person that finishes or the person with the most control points before the event is over wins the race.

Confused? Come out and learn more at the clinic. It's designed to show you want this sport is all about. There will be a limit of 10 for the beginner clinic.

After the clinic, you may continue participating on the Wednesday night park series offered by the Toronto Orienteering Club from 6:30 until 8pm in various Toronto's public parks throughout the summer. There are advanced clinics available as well.

Clinics are $30. A park series event is $5 (for a basic Toronto Orienteering Club membership if you have not purchase one already). A compass rental is $0.50 with a $5 deposit.

Please indicate by your experience level as a beginner if you want to sign up for a clinic. Choose either intermediate or advance if you simply just want to do the park series. If the event is full, I'll be able to move you off the wait list into the event if you do not require the clinic. If you need any rentals, please put your requests in the notes section when registering. I will let them know how many of us are coming to ensure enough maps and compass rentals are available.
