Itinerary:
Discover the University of Toronto (UTOC) Cabin!

Come spend a weekend of great skiing, great food and great conversation. In early March, snow conditions are usually good on Kolapore’s beautiful trails.

This will be a joint UTOC and TOC trip. There will be 13 spaces for members of each Club for a total of 26 participants.

We will leave the city sometime on Friday afternoon or evening, depending on when participants can get out of the city, and return Sunday evening.

Please note: we will have lights out, quiet time from 11:30pm. The reason is that the cabin is open concept and noise travels.

If trip participants would like, I will be happy to give an informal, basic ski lesson to beginners.

UTOC cabin details:

  • Sleeping arrangements : There are some foam rubber mattresses – probably not 26, and so at least some of us should bring thinsolite or air mattresses. Plus sleeping bag or warm blankets, sheets, and pillows.
  • Food: There is a full kitchen with a gas oven and stove. Volunteer(s) each buy the food for a meal. They are responsible to lead (with lots of help) cooking or preparing the meal at the Cabin. We share food costs equally.
  • Water: We do need to bring drinking water with us. There is a spring to get water to do dishes with.
  • Remember the Cabin lies in the Snow Belt! And so little or no snow in Toronto does not mean poor snow conditions at the Cabin. Email me and I can send you some great x-country skiing snow and weather links. However, if there is not enough snow on the Kolapore trails, those right at the cabin, two commercial x-country ski resorts are within 30 minutes car ride. They make snow and therefore have an even better chance of being open in early March... If it is a total washout, we can still do a number of fun things such as: Hiking: the Bruce trail goes right by the Cabin’s front door. Though at that time of year, the trail may or may not be hikeable depending on ice. then we can always hike some back roads Tour Creemore Brewery and look around the village. It is about 45 minutes drive away. Visit Collingwood and look around the town. It is about 30 minutes drive away. Or we can just enjoy sitting around the wood stove at the cabin talking and playing various card and board games.
