Sun, Mar 12 2006 - Horsemanship 101: Learn to Groom (View Original Event Details)
|
An early spring thaw meant the ground at the barn was muddy, but since we were grooming, we all got pretty dirty. I gave a quick how to lesson on grooming and everyone set out to work - Coco and Christine worked on Ives, Marianna helped out Maureen with Colby, Jo and Lyn set to work on Sarah, and Johana started brushing out Play. Steph and Hyesook worked on Alana Lee, who is not quite one year old. The treats came out early, but Play started to act a bit silly, so everyone had to wait until grooming was finished before they got their apples, carrots and sugar cubes. Play settled down (such a prima donna!) and everyone got scrubbing. They loved the attention, so the after groom treats where a mere formality. After the horses started to look like show horses again, we let them back outside and everyone had a turn mucking out their stalls. Then we all went upstairs to visit with the latest litter of 4 week old pups.
Nothing is more stress releasing then spending an afternoon with horses and puppies as you can see from the faces of everyone who attended! There were even some sign ups for the spring trail ride in April, now that being up close and personal with horses was not as scary as anticipated!
After our outing, some of us headed to the Frog & Firkin at Yonge & Sheppard for some Sunday dinner and horsey talk. I also heard that all the horses have taken great care with their sleek and clean looks - they are quite proud of themselves for looking so clean!
