Tue, Apr 22 2008 - Go-Kart Night (View Original Event Details)
|
The event started of normal enough as most of us met up at Downsview station before heading off to GP Kartways. Most of us have had either limited or no experience Go Kart-ing so we were impressed and maybe a bit intimidated when both Matt and Vitaly showed up with their own race helmets and racing gloves :-0 So everyone had a fairly good idea as to who could be the best racers of the night.
After registering for our $5 official GPK licenses and paying for our $25 2-for1 races. We learned during this time that the free balaclava that comes with the membership is not the desert baklava but rather a silk headgear covering made of fire-retardant material that we are to wear underneath our helmets. We still a bit of time before the start of our first race after registering and since no free snacks were being served :-) some of us had to settle for getting our pre-race nourishments from the track side cafe.
We were split up into 2 race groups as the race started and most if not all of us were surprised and impressed with the kart's immediate acceleration and torque that made the cars get and go pretty darn fast! And as we got more comfortable with handling the car and became more familiar with the track, there was a noticeable increase in everyone's competitiveness. Manifested in more bumping and passing occurring; and this collective competitiveness continued on through the 2nd race.
After completing our races, everyone gather at the racers lounge and compared results and come down off our adrenaline highs before heading home. Everyone had a great and fun time and looked forward to possibly doing this event again the next time.
So to recap here is quick summary of our race results:
1st Race Best Lap Time - Matt at 22.954 seconds (which for a time was the best lap time of the day)
1st Race 2nd Best Lap Time - Vitaly at 23.941 seconds
2nd Race Best Lap Time - Chetan at 23.555 seconds
2nd Race 2nd Best Lap Time - Kate at 23.570 seconds
Thanks again to everyone who made it out for this and we hope to see you again on the next Go Kart night!
