Sun, Oct 21 2007 - Kelso & Hilton Falls - Bruce Trail Hike (View Original Event Details)
|
Autumn is, in my opinion the best time for a hike. The smell of fresh fallen leaves, a gentle breeze and temperatures just right for mild physical exertion. (Hey, didn’t I use this line in another hike write-up?) This time around we had a very sunny day, with some strong gusts of wind early on in the hike..
Cliffs were the theme this weekend, we scaled Mount Kelso, which gave an excellent view of the countryside, and city scape. I waved to the folks in the CN Tower.
After finishing with the Kelso hike we began the Hilton Falls side loop, which alone would have been 19.3 km if we did it in it’s entirety. Hilton Falls was a little disappointing, in that the river bed was completely dried up and there were no falls at all...
After walking over some fairly rocky terrain for several kilometres, it was decided that we should head back and not complete my overly ambitious plan of hiking both the Kelso loop AND the Hilton Falls loop, which would have gone into the low 30km range. This being autumn darkness comes early, and this was a Sunday hike, so work for most the next day.
Several of us stuck around for an after hike meal. It’s a great way to finish off the day.
I know everyone was curious on how far we actually walked, so I worked it out. Our final distance covered was about 22.15 km.
