Sat, Oct 27 2007 - Hike - Osler Bluffs & Relax at Spa (View Original Event Details)
|
The day started with bouts of sun and a mixture of dark clouds signalling imminent rain. However it did not stop Erik, the other coordinator and I, plus eight other members from starting the journey. When we parked on the shoulder of the road, mountain bikers in colourful attire greeted us ready to take off on their wheels. Erik was ready to go with his GPS(Geographical programming system). The trail was a little muddy, the rain started to come down little by little but we nevertheless, enjoyed the winding trails flaked by many apple trees and raspberry bushes. Along the way we discovered a couple of trees that had been hit by lighting. (Not on this trip) A variety of mushrooms and funguses could be found on the trees. At one point, we even reached a sign that said, “ This is the highest point of Bruce trail”. However, we debated the sign’s authority for we could see higher elevation ahead of us. The group proved to be a daring one for taking to the caves with Erik. Along the way, we were rewarded with two spectacular lookouts from which you could see beautifully coloured trees surrounded by farms. One could imagine a painting from an art book. This is precisely it- a perfect image lifted out of a page.
After surviving through the wet rain, we were glad to arrive at the Scandineavia spa. The steam from the baths just made anyone want to jump in. I have experienced steam rooms and baths in other places but with no doubt, this was by far the ultimate for me. It was so relaxing in there that one of the members nearly fell asleep. For me, it was the moisture and mixture of herbs in the steam room that did the trick. I would definitely want to come back and lead this event.
Erik and I would like to thank everyone for coming out. Thank you for your positive spirit and enjoyment of Mother Nature even when it misbehaves. This is what life is all about. You make the best of what you have. I would like to thank the drivers for stepping up to help out. You are much appreciated for your patience and time. Thank you to Erik for leading the hike and his GPS that helped us find our way back to the cars.
