Sat, Nov 24 2007 - Indoor Rock Climbing (View Original Event Details)
|
the event got off to a great start, but it was extremely busy at Rockheads for a Saturday. There was a big kid’s Birthday party and a few other lessons going on. Our group had 5 people taking the lesson, and Yan was the instructor as usual.
Joseph, Stephanie and Kim M hadn’t climbed for a while and all had to be tested. I am happy to report that they all passed their respective tests. The pairings ended up being Stephanie & Kim M, Ian & Christina, Joseph & Sharon, and Kim J and I. Everyone was climbing very well, and more importantly, most people were willing to experiment with climbs that seemed very difficult.
we really ended up having a lot of fun with the beginners, and I mean that in a good way. We always want to be there when a beginner “slaps the ceiling” for the first time and they come back down to the ground. Jenn and Arthur had a good approach in that they concentrated in one climb in particular. Jenn also learned that she needed to improve the use of her legs by looking down more. Most of the beginners didn’t really think they would get to attempt a 5.8, but they did, in fact Pierre did it like nothing. My good friend Tarek walked away knowing that if he is ever asked, he can now say he’s climbing at 5.8.
Even though we were having so much fun, the climbing had to stop, because Kim J was getting dangerously hungry. So, we went to the pub, discussed movies, politics, the Island of Macao, Michael Moore & healthcare and many other topics that now escape me.
As always it was a great event. Please follow the link to the facebook album to see some pictures, and please tag yourself if I haven’t already done so.
