Sun, Jul 2 2017 - Hoggs Hollow to Black Camel (Rosedale) 20 km (View Original Event Details)
|
An excellent city hike, and a great sandwich at the end.
We did the 1 km of mountain bike trails with some VERY VERY STEEP STEEP ups and downs. There were some mosquitoes along the way, but for the last 200 m of that 1 km there were A LOT of mosquitoes! I will skip that 1 km from now on during the bug season. Even though I and most of the hikers maintained a pace fast enough to prevent most of the mosquitoes from landing on us, see the next paragraph...
Once again today (same thing happened last July 2 when I led this
same hike (unplanned coincidence)) a few people
fell behind on the mountain bike trail and somehow got lost. After
finishing the bike trail and waiting for the lost hikers for a few
minutes, the hike leader went back into mosquito hell to call out
their names and blow his whistle. There was no response from the
lostees, but the hike leader sustained 5 mosquito bites! The lostees
eventually walked out to Don Mills and around the Science Centre and
caught up with us. We had spoken on our cells and figured out the
meeting spot.
