August’s Golf Day was another successful event, with 8 players taking to the fairways at Kettle Creek in Newmarket. For two very brave ladies, Cathy Liu and Karen Zheng, not only was this the first time they had played golf, it was their first TOC event (I trust we convinced them of the value of continuing to come out…)! After a 30 minute session on the driving range, during which Perkin and Alison showed them the fundamentals, the two ladies took to the course with gusto, hitting some very decent shots and recording very respectable scores.
Fiona and Kate returned for another session, and both ended up playing very well - Kate played a very steady round, with the same score on both nines and Fiona was delighted to learn how to hit her pitching iron correctly and kept looking for opportunities to take it out of the bag. The golf cart that Fiona inherited from her grandpa continued to intrigue all who saw it, as did her real woods – gorgeous persimmon club heads…
Alison and Perkin had their usual friendly competition for which the result will remain unpublished. Yi and Ben played steady rounds although after a couple of rough holes, Ben declared this to be his last round of the season. The sun shone, the weather was warmer than expected and all in all, everyone had a good day out.
