Write Up:

What started out like one of those days you wish you had stayed in bed for me, ended quite nicely by the end of the evening. I arrived at the theatre early enough to ensure that not only would I get a ticket, but to send any early arriving members to save some seats for the expected crowd of 11 that was showing up this evening! I was fortunate that Andrew and Shannon were early, allowing me to carry out my well laid plans. The rest of the crew arrived in bunches, and I quickly sent them in to help Andrew and Shannon guard our seats. As I waited for some last minute stragglers, I had my first taste of fame (or notoriety!), as the organizer from the Toronto Walking/Biking/Movie Meetup Group pointed me out and said, “Hey! You’re Jason from the Toronto Outdoor Club!” He went on to compliment our club and was impressed by the variety of events and the size of the club.

The movie itself was fun and action packed, just like any good summer blockbuster should be! The Actors and Robots performed well, and I think everyone was in agreeance that GM should be selling a lot more Camaro’s and Hummers this year! I myself am partial to the older Camaro, but I suppose I could wait till 2009 to pick up the New Beast. I think that we also agreed that some of the plot points could have made more sense, or at least be rational, but then we reminded ourselves that our brains were supposed to be checked at the door.

Speaking of brains, I think our waiter at the Pickle Barrel managed to forget his as well! Not only did we wait nearly 20 minutes for him to come by just to tell us he’d be a minute. He took our drink orders, but managed to forget a few of them as well. If I’m not mistaken, Perkin received his food order first before we even got our first drinks (I think the waiter had a thing for him)! Sue ordered a delicious bruschetta, but the only draw-back was that she had to build it herself! Poor Veronica received her Avocado and Turkey sandwich a bit cold and inedible, while Andrew’s was completely forgotten and had to wait a while longer… Again, we all agreed not to tip the guy, but he was smart enough to include an auto-grad on our bills!

And on a sadder note, Renee managed to get to the theatre early, waited by the Indigo (not Chapters) Theatre entrance, but didn’t see a single person from the club! Sadly, she showed up at the Yorkdale theatre and not the Yonge-Eglinton one… But she enjoyed the movie Ratatoullie instead, so hopefully she’ll get a chance yet to watch a great summer movie!

Thanks everyone for coming out!

Jason
