Thu, Oct 4 2007 - Toronto FC VS New York Red Bulls (View Original Event Details)

Well, in the end the right team won! On October 4, an enthusiastic crowd, including 9 TOCers, watched Toronto FC beat the New York Red Bulls by a score of 2-1. It wasn’t pretty. It definitely wasn’t Serie A or Premier League; on a global scale, this was probably the equivalent of an English 3rd Division match. There were some really good moves by players from both sides, and some truly awful defense by both teams. The ref seemed to see in only one direction, as in the first half he constantly penalized NY and in the second half, Toronto – clearly the lights from one end of BMO field were interfering with his vision… Two red and several yellow cards added a bit of spice to the evening. The raucous crowd in sections 113 and 114 behind the west goal were obvious season ticket holders, and rabid TFC fans – paper streamers and water bottles rained down on the field whenever NY had a corner or goal kick at ‘our’ end of the pitch, causing mayhem for the officials.
The fog rolled in off Lake Ontario, curling over the stands and across the pitch. Never enough to interfere with the match but adding a very fall-like atmosphere to the evening. After 90 minutes of regulation time, and 3 of extra time, Toronto walked away with their first win in many weeks much to the delight of the noisy crowd.
